DSi: How is it Justified?
If you're already the proud owner of a DS or DS Lite, It may be difficult convincing your parent or significant other that upgrading to a Nintendo DSi is worth the cost. It's easy to view the DSi as simply a fancier version of its predecessor, and those around you may not be convinced by the dual cam implementations. They won’t care for the sleeker design or the faster processing power of 16 MB RAM, which is four times more powerful than previous incarnations of the portable system. And they probably won't care for the DSi exclusive games slated for release.
So, how do you convince your parent/partner that the Nintendo DSi cost is worth it?
1. Iterate the fact that the DSi is a new gaming system, not simply an upgrade as the DS Lite was. There are enough new features and augmentation to the system to cement the fact that the DSi can be viewed as a completely new system, and therefore the fact that you can trade in your old DS for a reduced price on the DSi is definitely a good thing.
2. Nintendo, and especially the DS, have paved the way to make gaming accessible to anyone, not just the typical demographic. Therefore, this may just be the perfect time to get your parents or partner into gaming. The DSi will bring this fact even further, with many more exclusive games on the way.
3. If they're adamant that they will not be into the gaming side of the DSi, well there's still a whole host of features to explore. The DSi can be used as an internet video phone, and boasts audio features can rival the MP3 players that are available in the market today. Add the fact that the DSi can act as a digital camera and comes complete with many multimedia capabilities, expanded with the addition of an external storage device.
4. If they're into personal fitness, then tempt them with titles like Personal Trainer: Walking, which comes with its own motion-sensing apparatus to monitor walking workouts and the amount of calories burned. Upcoming DSi titles cover a whole range of attractive topics, including Yoga and Pilates, Brain Training and even cooking recipes. When viewed as a complete multimedia package, the cost of the DSi becomes a lot more reasonable and favourable to all concerned!
